Surf and kite school on Boavista, Cape Verde
Learn wingfoiling, kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing or stand-up paddling quickly and safely with us
A fantastic all-round spot for beginners, intermediates, pros, and all watermen and waterwomen.
Welcome to Planet Allsports Surf and Kite School on the stunning Cape Verdean island of Boavista – the place where your watersports dreams come true! We are proud to be the first wingfoil school in Europe and here in Cape Verde with an innovative training concept that will have you flying safely over the water in no time.
Our family center in the bay of Sal Rei and the relaxed “no stress” mentality of the islanders create a unique atmosphere in which you feel comfortable and welcome right from the start.
A special feature distinguishes our spot in front of the center: There is practically no shore break (except a few big swell days). The wind blows side-offshore from the right, a little gustier upwind in the shore area of our station. Directly downwind, however, the wind quickly becomes more even.
There is a small, safe reef on our doorstep, where beautiful long waves run in, whether you are a beginner or an advanced surfer, you will find the perfect wave, even when the sun sets over the glittering sea – because beautiful sundowner moments are guaranteed here.
Between the waves and in front of the reef, you have wonderful warm flat water and can enjoy long strokes and take a break on the shore at any time with a fantastic view of the large bay and the offshore island of “Ilheu de Sal Rei”.
If you’re feeling more confident in the waves, you can take your windsurfing or wingfoil equipment into the Leowa wave (Portuguese for lioness) when the swell is good. Here you have the opportunity to make turns in hip to double head-high waves. Don’t worry, because it doesn’t break too violently due to the rather deep reef. The sandbank is also located locally, so you can ride sideways, into and out of the wave without wading through destructive shorebreak.
So you’ll find plenty of water sports fun here – whether you want to go kitesurfing, windsurfing, wingfoiling, surfing, or stand-up paddling. Or perhaps you’d like to try everything with the combined offers.
Our center is also located on a beautiful and quiet sandy beach, right next to the cozy Tortuga Beach Restaurant, which serves local and Mediterranean specialties. The island of Boavista therefore offers a great overall package of water sports, unspoiled nature, delicious food, and the vibrant joy of life of the locals. In culinary terms, the fish is truly unique in Cape Verde. Here you can get freshly caught tuna and other delicious fish every day.

Hardly any shorebreak
Due to the offshore island, we have almost no shore break directly at our station (except for a few swell days), which makes it easy for you to get started, even in larger swells.
Fantastic spot with waves for beginners and advanced riders
Our house reef offers moderate waves of 1 to 2m on most days, in which you can let off steam with the SUP or surfing or experience your first waves with windsurfing or wingfoil material.
Safe and efficient boat training courses
Our courses are taught from the boat, so the instructor is always close to you and can train you particularly effectively. And you won't waste any time walking back to the beach.
License purchase after passing your course
With us you have the opportunity to get your license in the respective sport, i.e. your driving license for the sport that you have learned and can therefore easily rent material at many other stations.

SEASON TIME AND OPENING HOURS
We look forward to welcoming you to the surf and kite school from October 27th, 2023 to April 7th, 2024. We are there for you every day (7 days a week) from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Information about travel, accommodation etc.
“Boavischta”, as the locals pronounce it, is definitely a vacation highlight. It is one of the 15 Cape Verde islands and is located around 500-600 kilometers off the West African coast at the height of Dakar, a good 1000 kilometers south of the Canary Islands. Boavista is one of the most breathtaking spots in the world. The vastness, the water colors, the Cape Verdean “no stress” flair and the unique nature make the island so desirable.
As the first kite, windsurf, stand-up paddle and surf school on Boavista, we set up shop here over 17 years ago, 5-10 minutes from the town center. We deliberately chose the Tortuga Beach Club with Ruth and Leo. They have been running the restaurant for many years and offer excellent Italian cuisine and the best fish dishes.
Accomodations
If you want to experience the ‘joie de vivre’ of the locals in the small town of Sal Rei up close AND get the most out of water sports, then we recommend that you stay in a nice apartment as close as possible to our station.
We offer two wonderful accommodations just a 3-minute walk away. You can choose between the Cala da lua Aparthotel with its charmingly furnished rooms and optional breakfast service or the lovely Ca Nicola Hotel, which is located right on the beach and includes breakfast. You can book both accommodations through us, depending on your preference.
Of course, there are a few more accommodations, all of which have their own charm and can be booked directly by you.
Further information and FAQ
Everything about our opening hours, arrival, course offers, rental equipment, accommodation, airport transfers, wind conditions, etc.
- What is the best way to get to Boavista?
There are direct non-stop flights to Boavista from several European cities, the flight time is approx. 6 hours. The flights usually start early in the morning, i.e. H. You can get on the water on the day of your arrival if you want. Boavista Airport is called “BVC” Rabil.
Below we give you an overview of most flights from different countries:
A short direct flight (only 6 hours) takes you from many airports to our water sports paradise:
Germany:
from Düsseldorf (DUS): direct flights on Saturday & Tuesday with TUI
from Frankfurt (FFM): direct flights on Sunday & Tuesday (TUI)
from Stuttgart (STR): direct flights on Thursday with TUI
from Hannover (HAJ): direct flights on Friday and Monday
from Munich (MUC): Direct flights every Friday with TUI
Alternatively, TAP Portugal offers flights from Munich with a stop in Lisbon on Tuesdays, for example. On the outward flight there is an approx. 1:10 hour stop-over, on the return flight there is a one-night (approx. 13 hour) stop-over in Lisbon. The arrival in Munich is on Wednesday morning
Switzerland:
from Zurich: Monday there and Tuesday back (8 days!) with Edelweiss Airline
Italy:
from Verona – Rome – Milan: with neosair.it
- How long is the transfer from the airport to the hotel/apartment and to the surf school?
When you land on Boavista, you can already see the surf spot. The airport is small and easy to navigate and from there you can be at your accommodation in Sal Rei and at our surf school in around 10 minutes by car. We will be happy to organize the transfer for you in advance.
- What are the season and opening hours?
We are there for you every day (7 days a week) from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. As the wind and waves are at their best in the winter months, we only open our center during these months. The season starts at the end of October and lasts until the end of March/beginning of April.
- What accommodation would you recommend? Can I book accommodation through you?
You are welcome to book two aparthotels with us, the Cala da Lua Aparthotel (3 minutes’ walk to the center) and the Ca Nicola (6 minutes’ walk). Several other accommodations in the small town of Sal Rei also offer beautiful, authentic and lovely rooms.
- Is Boavista the right spot for me?
Windsurfers who want to “heat up” for 7 days, for example, are better off in Egypt.
With its wind and wave conditions, Boavista has now become an absolute paradise, especially for wing foilers and surfers. Due to the diagonally offshore wind direction from the right, beginners in particular will find good conditions here to learn a new water sport. Our effective kite and wing foil boat training courses offer absolute safety and quick learning success thanks to the instructor’s constant accompaniment with the boat.
- Do I need a wetsuit and shoes?
Even if the temperatures are warm, we recommend bringing a thin wetsuit or at least a shorty. If you would like to surf, then our small house reef to the side of the center offers you a nice playground, for protection we recommend wearing surf shoes here. However, it is also possible without, as the rocks are not sharp-edged.
- Do you recommend booking a package deal or self-catering?
We generally recommend that everyone get to know the country and its people. You are absolutely safe as a self-caterer and you will also find three supermarkets in Sal Rei where you can get everything you need. The nice little fishing village really has a special charm that you obviously can’t experience in the big TUI hotels.
Of course, if you want something a little more comfortable, you can also have a great time in the big hotels. From the TUI hotels you can reach the center in 5 minutes by taxi. Taxis are available on every corner and don’t cost much.
- Can I rent a car for an island tour?
It is highly recommended to rent a car for at least one day to take a tour of the island. Quad tour operators also offer great trips to breathtaking and extensive beaches.
BOAVISTA is a wonderful overall package for me, I love traveling there, the lifestyle, the water colors, the nature and the people there inspire me.
Of course, if you are looking for perfect windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions, with strong and constant wind every day, then you will probably be disappointed on Boavista. But if you want the feeling of a road trip and see the whole package, then you will experience one of the best vacations ever on Boavista. If you are not exclusively fixated on one particular water sport and dare to try a SUP or a surfboard, you can let off steam all day long on Boavista.
You also shouldn’t miss out on taking a road trip across the island by jeep or quad bike at least once during your vacation. We promise you, it will be breathtaking.
Boavista is so diverse and will charm you with the small villages in the interior, the off-road paths from A to B and the endless white and deserted beaches and beautiful bays. There are also great wave conditions for experienced kiters and windsurfers.”
I would be delighted to get you excited about this unique island.
